Flat or Adventure?

When I stated fromVan Horn that morning,i had to make a difficult decision, because Van Horn is like the watershed of CarlsbadCaverns and Guadalupe National Park, just 90 miles to get there, I heard the amazing Cavern when I was in Big Bend .If I stick to my original plan , then I should head to El Paso,so I could get tents and spare tire there, but the scenery is nothing special along the way, if I take this route to National Park, which is the highest point in Texas,8749 feet in elevation, the road is gonna be pretty hilly and there will be no stores and supplies , no way to get a tent, but i won’t miss the amazing scenery. If you were me, how would you choose?
You know me, yes, flat or adventure, of course, I would choose the latter one,a beautiful scenery for traveler is like the New World for Columbus,no exploring no discovery!

After a few miles riding, i started to feel out of breath , was it altitude sickness? Psychological reaction! Ha ha, the altitude had not changed yet, I had to focus myself on the scenery, not get scared by the huge mountain.

Look how beautiful it was along the way!

My lunch spot!

Nice weather didn’t last long, the dark clouds threatened a bigstorm. My rear panniers are not waterproof so I had to put a rain cover on it ,but since I lost the inside elastic band of rain cover so it couldn’t cover the panniers tightly , i tried to use the bungee cord to tie it up but didn’t work very well, so the best way to protect my rear panniers from the big rain is to cover it with my own body, haha, sounds so hilarious, but that’s what I did! The rain was like pouring down from the sky, moreover, the hailstorm came! Marble sized was smashing my helmet just like someone was beating me ! Was that you?

There was no shelter in the middle of this barren mountain and I could only pray that the weather could get better soon. At that time a truck passed by, but a few minutes later he drove back, he said he felt bad about driving away ,he can’t let a girl beaten up by the hail but ignoring it.So I jumped into his truck but got all soaked dripping like a drowned rat.

He was a rancher nearby,he said it wasn’t raining for a few months. The hail was very rare even. Ha, I must be a lucky dog to witness then.He offered me to stay at his lodging after he knew that I didn’t have a place to stay. But I determined to stay at the foot of the hill in order to save some time for the next day. However, there was nothing there but a campground, he felt bad about just leaving me there, but I assured him that I would be ok, at least will survive, lol.I thought about sleeping on the bench so I could watch the beautiful sunrise the next day,but the big rain just came again! The only shelter I could find was the restroom , so had to put the bike inside, and dry my hair and clothes . I cooked ramen for dinner then stood outside watching the rain leisurely . I thought i might have to sleep at the restroom for the night since it kept raining and i didn’t have a tent ,but that was acceptable for me, I always make the worst plan but the real situation is always better than I prepared, because God loves me much more than I myself, he never put me into any bad situations even he knows I’m prepared.Just like when I prepared to stay at the restroom for the night, the park ranger passed by asking me if I found a spot to pitch my tent,I said I only have a bike, and lost my tent so had no idea where should I stay,he said why don’t you come to our office , having a cup of tea warming up yourself first, we will find a way for you. He took my bike to the office, his boss made tea for me, and found a good rainproof tent, but later on they realized that one of their coworker just bought a new house nearby, it was better for me to stay at the vacant house than the tent. I spent the night with God, His love is always more than I want.

Luke 11:9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

I finally saw the beautiful sunrise the next morning . But it may take a few hours for climbing so I just went directly to the Cavern ,it was soooo foggy with less than 3meters visibility. The local said it was pretty rare as well, haha, i must be a cloud, fog, rain, hail, i could turn any weather i want , or, I don’t want! Haha!

Well, finally got to the Carlsbad Cavern!Hooray!

Carlsbad Cavern includes a large cave chamber, (The Big Room), a natural limestone chamber almost 4,000 feet (1,220 m) long, 625 feet (191 m) wide, and 255 feet (78 m) high at the highest point. It is the fifth largest chamber in North America and the twenty-eighth largest in the world.

This adventure was so worthy!
